Ayurvedic treatment for Minor Skin diseases with pictures

According to Charaka (School of Ayurvedic Medicine), there is two major classifications of all types of ‘Kushtha’ (skin diseases). These are: Maha Kushtha (Major skin disease) and Kshudra Kushtha (Minor skin disease).
Maha Kushtha (Major skin disease), we have already been discussed previously in another post so here we are discussed about Kshudra Kushtha (Minor skin disease) in details.
Further, Kshudra Kushtha (Minor skin disease) is subdivided into eleven sub-types as follows:

• Ek-kushtha– Vata & Kapha doshas dominance
• Charmakya – Vata & Kapha doshas dominance
• Kitibh – Vata & Kapha doshas dominance
• Vipaadika – Vata & Kapha doshas dominance
• Alasak – Vata & Kapha doshas dominance
• Dadru- Pitta & Kapha doshas dominance
• Charmadal – Pitta & Kapha doshas dominance
• Pama- Pitta & Kapha doshas dominance
• Visphotak- Pitta & Kapha doshas dominance
• Shataaru- Pitta & Kapha doshas dominance
• Vicharchika- Kapha dosha dominance

1)  Ek-kushtha:
अस्वेदनं महावास्तु यत्मत्स्यशकलोपमम् | तदेककुष्ठं … (Charak Samhita Chi. 7/21)

Symptoms of Ek-kushtha:
1)      Looks like Scales of a fish
2)      The person doesn’t get sweat in the affected area
3)      Rough & course on touch
4)      Extensive in size
5)      Developed by vitiated Vata & Kapha or Vata & Kapha doshas dominance
6)      Some of the Ayurvedic physicians consider this one is a variety of Psoriasis.
Ayurvedic treatment for Ek-kushtha/ Ayurvedic treatment for Psoriasis:

• External application: Shatdhauta grita- Grita (clarified butter) washed in water for hundred times, Jivantyadi Malahar (Ointment), Skintone oil (Siddham Ayurveda’s)

• Internal application: Kwath (Decoction)– OPD CHEK Decoction (Siddham Ayurveda’s), Triphala kwath, Laghu manhishthadi kwath (Note: Freshly prepared decoction mixed with cow’s ghee/clarified butter is advisable); Vati (Tablets) – Tab. Samsamani  vati (Punarvasu Pharma- Nadiad), Tab. B-Clear (Siddham Ayurveda’s); Granules– Allergin granules (Nagarjuna Herbal Products, Kerala); Intake of Medicated grita– Mahatiktaka grita, Panchtikta grita, Khadira grita, Patola grita, Guduchi grita, Haridra grita, Triphala grita, Nimba grita or Patola grita is advisable.

• Purification of body by ‘Panchkarma Treatments’ is advisable.

2)  Charmakhya:
चर्माख्यम् बहलं हस्तिचर्मवत् | (Charak Samhita Chi. 7/21)

3)      Developed by vitiated Vata & Kapha or Vata & Kapha doshas dominance

1)      This variety is known as ‘Dry Eczema’
2)      The colour of the affected skin is dull black
3)      Feeling rough on touch like a scar
4)      The affected skin is very much dry or course on touch
5)      Developed by vitiated Vata & Kapha or Vata & Kapha doshas dominance
Ayurvedic treatment for Kitibh/ Ayurvedic treatment for Dry Eczema:

• External application: Shatdhauta grita- Grita (clarified butter) washed in water for hundred times, Jivantyadi Malahar (Ointment) or Skintone oil (Siddham Ayurveda’s) should be applied locally.

2)      It is very much painful
3)      Developed by vitiated Vata & Kapha or Vata & Kapha doshas dominance

• External application: Shatdhauta grita- Grita (clarified butter) washed in water for hundred times, Jivantyadi Malahar (Ointment), Jatyadi Malhar (Ointment)  or Skintone oil (Siddham Ayurveda’s) should be applied locally.

• Internal application: Kwath (Decoction)– OPD CHEK Decoction (Siddham Ayurveda’s), Triphala kwath, Laghu manhishthadi kwath (Note: Freshly prepared decoction mixed with cow’s ghee/clarified butter is advisable); Vati (Tablets) – Tab. Samsamani  vati (Punarvasu Pharma- Nadiad), Tab. B-Clear (Siddham Ayurveda’s), Cap. 5)  Alasak:
कंडूमद्भी: सरागैश्च गंडैरलसकं चितम् | (Charak Samhita Chi. 7/23)

1)      The affected skin is full of itching and red papules
2)      Developed by vitiated Vata & Kapha or Vata & Kapha doshas dominance
3)      Some of the Ayurvedic physicians consider this one is an ‘Urticaria’
Ayurvedic treatment for Alasak/ Ayurvedic treatment for Urticaria:

• Panchkarma treatment (Medicated vomiting followed by medicated purgation) should be advised prior to the palliative treatment or the person is advised to take ‘Clear Vit’ powder (Siddham Ayurveda’s) four teaspoonfuls mix with the equal quantity Honey and around half to one glass of Water early in the morning and with empty stomach. The person is advised not to eat anything after consuming of the Clear Vit mixture until he feels hungry.
• External application: ‘Argwadhadi lepa’ (Paste) or ‘Glow skin-pack’ (Siddham Ayurveda’s) mixed with buttermilk should be applied twice a day; Skintone oil (Siddham Ayurveda’s) should be applied after removing the ‘Argwadhadi lepa’ or ‘Glow skin-pack’.

• Internal Medicine: Vati (Tablets): Rasavanti ghanvati, Pathyadi ghanvati, Tab. B-Clear (Siddham Ayurveda’s); Kwath (Decoction): OPD CHEK Decoction (Siddham Ayurveda’s), Triphala kwath, Pathyadi kwath, Laghu manjishthadi kwath, Asanadi kwath; Medicated wines: Khadirarishtha

6)      Dadru:
सकंडूरागपिडकं दद्रुमंडलमुद्गतम् | (Charak Samhita Chi. 7/23)

Symptoms of Dadru:
1)      It is accompanied with itching, redness and pimples
2)      It is circular in shape and elevated on the border
3)      Developed by vitiated Pitta & Kapha or Pitta & Kapha doshas dominance
4)      Some of the Ayurvedic physicians consider this one is a ‘Ring worm infection’.
Ayurvedic treatment for Dadru/ Ayurvedic treatment for ‘Ring worm infection’:

• Medicated vomiting (Vamana karma- a type of Panchkarma procedure) should be advised first and Siravyadha treatment (Ayurvedic Vene puncture procedure) is advisable locally or the person is advised to take ‘Clear Vit’ powder (Siddham Ayurveda’s) four teaspoonfuls mix with the equal quantity Honey and around half to one glass of Water early in the morning and with empty stomach. The person is advised not to eat anything after consuming of the Clear Vit mixture until he feels hungry.
• External application: ‘Argwadhadi lepa’ (Paste) or ‘Glow skin-pack’ (Siddham Ayurveda’s) mixed with buttermilk should be applied twice a day

7)  Charmadal:
रक्तं सकंडू सस्फोटम् सरुग्दलति चापि यत् | तश्चर्मदलमाख्यातं संस्पर्शासहमुच्यते |  (Ch. Chi. 7/24)

3)      Attended with eruption
4)      It is painful
5)      There is scaling of the skin
6)      Tender on touch

8)      Some of the Ayurvedic physicians consider this one is a variety of Psoriasis
Ayurvedic treatment for Charmadal/ Ayurvedic treatment for Psoriasis:

2)      There is whitish, reddish or dull black rashes on the affected skin area with severe itching
3)      Developed by vitiated Pitta & Kapha or Pitta & Kapha doshas dominance

• External application:‘Argwadhadi lepa’ (Paste) or ‘Glow skin-pack’ (Siddham Ayurveda’s) mixed with buttermilk should be applied twice a day;

• External application: ‘Dashang lepa’ mixed with water (in paste form, Nimb oil, Karanj oil or Jatyadi oil should should be applied twice/thrice a day;

2)     The affected area is dull black in colour with rashes along with itching and profuse discharge
3)     Developed by vitiated Kapha  or Kapha dosha dominance
Ayurvedic treatment for Vicharchika/ Ayurvedic treatment for Wet Eczema:

• External application: Wash the affected skin area with ‘Panchvalkal kwath’ (Decoction made by bark of Five Ficus trees’) and then do dusting of ‘Haridra(turmeric powder)’ twice/thrice a day
